As a busy parent and entrepreneur, I completely understand how easy it is to get caught up in the chaos of everyday life. Between chasing kids, working full-time and trying to make time for yourself and everyone around you, it can be extremely challenging and easy to just drift through each day in survival mode.

However, life is meant to be lived and you are destined to reach your fullest potential. It’s in the chasing of your dreams and finding that optimal balance in your life that brings you that ultimate sense of happiness and fulfillment you subconsciously seek. Without having clear cut goals and a vision for each day, as well as for the long-term, you end up going down a path of slow self-destruction and defeat; be it personally, professionally or with your health and wellness.

So, what can you do? It starts with taking ownership of each day that you are blessed with and creating positive habits that will best serve you and allow you to give the most to everyone else around you.

Get Organized the Night Before

If you want to start the day off on the right foot, it begins with getting organized the night before. Whether it’s packing lunches for kids, getting the coffee ready, laying out gym clothes or putting together your computer and items for an early morning meeting, prepare everything you can as early in the night as possible and before you head to bed in order to set yourself up for success the next day.

Prioritize Your Calendar

Days can quickly get out of hand when you don’t have a strong plan for exactly what is going on, where you’re going and what you’ll be doing. Own your calendar by planning in 10- or 15-minute increments. Prioritize what you need for yourself and your family in your calendar first and begin to fill in the slots around those items with work activities and other happenings. When you prioritize and schedule in what is most important to you based on your values, philosophies and beliefs, you’ll quickly find that by getting what you want and need on a regular basis it will deliver much more happiness.

Prepare Your Mental Mindset

Begin each day with some goal setting, visualization for the day to come and some time for focus. It doesn’t have to take more than a few minutes; whether it be a quick entry into a journal, meditation or a brief mental workout, spend some time emphasizing positivity, optimism and gratitude for the day in front of you.

Get Active

As your willpower and energy levels fade with the hours in the day, it’s always best to tackle a daily workout first thing in the morning. Not only will this give you more energy for the day, but it provides a great sense of accomplishment to build off of first thing in the morning. It will take a slight time tradeoff by having to get to bed a bit earlier, but as your overall organization improves (See Tip #1), you’ll find what you get in return by hitting the gym right away in the day is more than worth it.

Eat a Great Breakfast

As the old saying goes, breakfast truly IS the most important meal of the day. Believe it or not, most people don’t eat ENOUGH calories to begin with, and a small or nonexistent breakfast is many times the main culprit. Focus on a good amount of healthy proteins, some complex carbs or fruit and don’t be afraid to make this one of your bigger meals for the day while tapering down the size of the others. A solid breakfast will effectively stoke your metabolism, provide you with great energy for the day and get you on track to a more ideal weight.
