What does the below WANTED advertisement have to do with YOUR team???

WANTED: “Men wanted for hazardous journey. Small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant danger, safe return doubtful. Honor and recognition in case of success.”

How many of you reading this would have been interested in the advertised job?

In 1914, explorer Ernest Shackleton set out with a crew of 27 others on a quest to cross the continent of Antarctica through the South Pole.

Upon leaving an island in the southern Atlantic Ocean toward Antarctica, his ship, the Endurance, ended up stuck and getting crushed in an ice pack. Months later after surviving on the ice pack, the crew piled into a few small life boats and made their way to Elephant Island.

Upon reaching the island, Shackleton and five crew members set out on a 22-foot life boat to cross some of the roughest ocean waters in the world to seek help for the remaining crew. They later returned to Elephant Island and rescued the remaining crew safely.

Guess how many crew members died throughout this entire ordeal…

Why? Because they were all initially attracted to the WHY behind the expedition, knew exactly what they were getting into and completely believed in the cause.

The LESSON: Your company has its own culture of values, beliefs and deep down WHY’s. Your company has to not only be living those on a daily basis, but also consistently communicating it in order to build a quality team that will buy into the cause and vision.

THE QUESTIONS: Are you building an effective and committed team based on trust and the deep down WHY’s of the organization? Are you getting people in the door that believe what you believe? Are you constantly putting in the work to get your team to buy into the values and core focus of the company?
